AN ACOUSTIC TRIUMPH IN THE SURREY COUNTRYSIDE
When Media Max required a home cinema system that would provide a family of movie lovers with an immersive experience like no other, the integrator turned to DbM to deliver expertly created design and specification support as well as products that provide unparalleled performance.
Media Max started working on this large residential property around four years ago, but due to COVID putting the project on hold and the sheer scale of the job, it’s been a lengthy install for the team. Located in the Surrey countryside and sitting on 50 acres of land, this family home incorporated the main house and a rebuilt annexe.
The house was renovated before the existing owners moved in. While new in design, the technology and cabling were quite old. Knowing what the client wanted in the long run, Media Max made it a priority to get the infrastructure up to current requirements.
Following this work, Media Max turned its attention to specifying new tech for the project. The team has worked with DbM before and knew that a combination of its brands would work well. They wanted the client to see the products for themselves, so invited them to visit the DbM HQ in Cambridgeshire to experience the demo rooms, meet the team and enjoy a factory tour. The client fell in love with the Meridian Audio experience and requested that Media Max equip the whole house with these speakers.
Having installed Meridian speakers throughout the property – including a custom finish pair of DSP7200SE loudspeakers to match the client’s new piano in the lounge and DSP320.2 in-ceiling speakers and DSP640.2 in-wall loudspeakers in the snug – Media Max started work on the crown jewels of this project – its home cinema, which is situated in the newly built annexe alongside a pool, games room and bar.
Media Max worked closely with DbM on the design for the cinema. Using DbM’s complimentary and fully customised Design & Specification Service, the two teams landed on an impressive reference level cinema spec, which was guaranteed to exceed the requirements for this family.
On the audio side, the room is packed to the brim with Meridian speakers. The set-up includes five DSP8000SE loudspeakers and three DSP640.2 in-wall loudspeakers for the front height channels – all hidden behind the projector screen. Six DSP640.2 loudspeakers in the ceiling, eight in the side walls, and four in the back wall complete the speaker package.
DbM also supplied four Meridian DSW600 in-wall subwoofers, a Trinnov Altitude 32 audio processor and two 271 Meridian Digital Theatre Controllers. Acoustic treatment panels ensure maximised audio performance.
Media Max and DbM ensured the video matched the audio, with a Barco Prometheus 3 4K DCi Projection System, a 4,700mm x 1,958mm 2.40:1 ratio projection screen and a Lumagen Radiance Pro 5244.
Eleven fully customised seats – to accommodate the tall family members – complete the cinema room. This allows enough space for the family to enjoy regular movie nights together – ranging from Sing and Trolls for the grandson up to the Marvel movies for the older members of the family.
